Partner Visa (Subclass 820 & 801)
The Partner Visa (subclass 820 and 801) is a type of visa that allows the partners of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live and work in Australia temporarily or permanently. This visa is designed to reunite couples and families in Australia and support genuine relationships.
The Partner Visa consists of two stages:
- The temporary Partner Visa (subclass 820): This visa allows you to live and work in Australia with your partner temporarily while the Department of Home Affairs assesses your application for permanent residency. You must be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your partner, and meet other eligibility requirements, including health and character requirements.
- The permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801): This visa allows you to live and work in Australia permanently with your partner. You must continue to meet the eligibility requirements, including the genuine and ongoing nature of your relationship with your partner, and have lived in Australia for at least two years since the grant of your temporary Partner Visa (subclass 820).
To be eligible for the Partner Visa (subclass 820 and 801), you must be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your partner and meet other eligibility requirements, including health and character requirements. You may also need to provide evidence of your relationship, including joint finances, living arrangements, and social activities.
It is important to note that the Partner Visa application process can be complex, and it is recommended that you seek the advice of a registered migration agent to determine your eligibility and improve your chances of successfully obtaining the Partner Visa (subclass 820 and 801).
